Rittman WWTP Improvements
The proposed work consists of improvements to the existing Rittman Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to replace failing treatment processes and equipment. This project includes the replacement of the inoperable grit collection system, including, but not limited to the grit pump and grit classifier along with associated piping and electrical improvements. A three-sided structure will be constructed around the raw sewage pumping station to protect operators from the elements. Above ground diffuser piping and diffusers are scheduled to be replaced in the equalization, grit, aeration, aerobic digester, sludge holding, flow distribution chamber, and chlorine contact tanks. As each tank is drained, concrete repairs will be completed, new motorized drain valves will be installed, and the tank floors will be grouted to drain properly. New blowers will be provided for the equalization tanks to isolate the diffuser system per Ten State Standards. In addition, the equalization basin overflow will be rerouted to the head of the treatment plant. New positive displacement aeration blowers will be installed to replace the existing centrifugal blowers which are beyond their useful life. The pumps and pump motors within the existing sludge pump building will be replaced with new pumps and motors with VFDs to more efficiently regulate flows. Both final clarifiers will have their internal components replaced, including, but not limited to, the center columns, rake arms, clarifiers bridges, skimmers, scum beaches, baffles, and weirs. The replacement of an existing 300 kW standby emergency generator with a new 1 MW standby emergency generator and transfer switch to provide all treatment processes with power during an electrical outage. For Health and Safety, the existing chlorination channels will be converted to ultraviolet (UV) disinfection channels along with enhanced post-aeration. The SCADA system will be expanded to allow functioning and monitoring of the plant processes from a single location. The existing septage receiving station will be converted to a City vacuum truck only receiving station. Additional architectural, electrical, and mechanical restoration of several structures is also included with this project. The construction of a tarp barn will allow the City to store materials on site. Additional site improvements include the modification of the plant entrance and resurfacing of Morning Star Drive.
